Back-to-nature formula for most tropical freshwater fish
With back-to-nature, Ocean Nutrition looks into the feeding habits of most of our freshwater aquarium fish, apart from the feeding specialists. The standard aquarium feeds are mostly built up on a basis of fish meal, and other marine protein sources.
The reality is that most of our aquarium-sized fish never eat any other fish in nature, but constantly hunt for small insects and other freshwater crustaceans and invertebrates. So nutritionally, a diet where the protein is coming only from insects, insect larvae and crustaceans is much more suited for the aquarium fish.
Sustainably formulated food without fish ingredients
The nutritional approach of using insect protein, which are harvested/cultured in a sustainable way, also reduces the pressure on stocks of wild fish in the sea and benefit the wild predators of these small fish, like dolphins, penguins, larger fish, whales, birds, etc.
Natural sources of antioxidants and astaxanthin
Ocean Nutrition moves away from the use of synthetic additives and colorants to preserve and colour the food. They now use natural antioxidant molecules to protect the food from lipid rancidity, and to boost the astaxanthin content, essential for nicely coloured fish, is directly coming from the algae that naturally produce them.
Triggers the instinctive feeding response of micropredatory fish
The adapted size of the diets, together with the attractive insect molecules that are released in the water from the pellets and flakes activates the natural instinctive hunting reflex in our mostly insectivorous aquarium fish.
Contains a blend of fresh insects
Ocean Nutrtion's production technology allows them to not only use dried insect powders in the formulation, but also to add fresh, or fresh frozen ingredients like mosquito larvae directly in the feed mash. In this way, they can offer optimal nutritional molecules to the fish, and the fresh attractant juices from the larvae are going directly into the feed.
