Zeolith.
Filtermateriale.
DESCRIPTION
Hobby Zeolite is an algae-inhibiting filter substrate that is suitable for use in external filters in freshwater and saltwater aquariums, but also in garden ponds.
1kg zeolite works in 500-litre aquariums with a medium fish population for approx. 3 months.
Hobby zeolite with 8-16 mm is more than 80% pure Clinop zeolite. This has the strongest effect of the 30 different types of zeolite due to its special crystal structure. Hobby zeolite, therefore, binds polluting ammonium, even if useful substances such as potassium and sodium ions are also present, as is the case with seawater. The pore size of 4 Angstroms (4 millionths of a millimetre) is also very ideal for binding the ammonium ion through electrostatic attraction. Hobby zeolite does not contain any silica and can be used in sea water without hesitation. Filter materials cannot be compared with one another without taking into account the different modes of action. Zeolite promotes a rapid culture of denitrifying bacteria, which fix and break down organic breakdown products from plants or fish excrement. There are certainly filter materials that provide the special bacteria with an even more colonisable surface. But zeolite mainly acts as a catalyst and ion exchanger. It absorbs environmental toxins and putrefaction products, binds phosphate and above all ammonium and inhibits the growth of algae
